A Studio City restaurant, built around its guests.
Mexicali Cocina & Cantina is a Studio City restaurant on Ventura Boulevard, established in 1995 and known for its Margatini™. This is a completed CtrlAltRedesign project, live on the restaurant’s existing domain.
The job: make the restaurant easy to understand and use.
The rebuild brought the restaurant’s identity, approved photography, menus, and practical guest information into one coherent, mobile-friendly experience. The goal was useful customer actions—not a generic restaurant template.
1. Make the menu readable on the page.
Food, brunch, cocktails, tequila, and mezcal are organized as website content. Guests can open a menu section and read descriptions without downloading a PDF. Keeping menus as text also makes future price and item updates more straightforward.
2. Bring customer actions into view.
The opening links directly to the restaurant’s existing reservation and delivery services. Phone users also get a bottom call, reserve, and order bar. Hours, the Studio City address, directions, and the restaurant phone number are grouped in the visit section.
3. Keep the visual identity specific to Mexicali.
A dark, warm palette, generous typography, the Margatini photograph, restaurant details, and food/bar photography give the site its own character. The phone version reorganizes that same story rather than shrinking a desktop layout.
4. Build accessibility foundations into the website.
The project includes a skip link, structured headings, text menus, image descriptions, keyboard-usable controls, and an accessibility settings button. These are practical improvements, not a legal accessibility certification.
